Intact and Smiling Vol. 1

20 years of Tapete Records – Our first release, if memory serves, was in 2002. Damn, time flies so fast when you're having fun. The world has changed a lot in the last 20 years but one detail has remained the same: We're still putting out great music. That's a bit reassuring, isn't it? So we thought in our Tapete Building at Stahltwiete 10 in Hamburg-Altona: Let's look back and start a series of good, old-fashioned, fantastic label compilations in the style of “Shadow Facory", "Tamla Motown Is Hot! Hot! Hot!" or "Wanna Buy A Bridge?"...something like that. And so here is "Intact & Smiling – The Weird & Wonderful World Of Tapete Records Vol.1".

It wasn't that easy to choose 28 out of about 5000 released songs, but what's easy? Therefore a series. "Intact & Smiling Vol. 1" concentrates on the poppy side of Tapete Records, the basic tone is upbeat and uplifting. Can't hurt these days. The title comes from the John Howard & The Night Mail song which says: "Intact and smiling, an independent soul, nobody’s slave". What could be more fitting?

We would like to thank all the great artists who have released music with us over the last two decades, especially the bands and artists who have so kindly and unbureaucratically made available their great songs for this compilation. And of course a big thank you to you who listen to, buy and stream (well, yes) Tapete Records albums and songs.

So close your eyes, open your ears, open your hearts, open up a bottle and step into The Weird & Wonderful World Of Tapete Records Vol. 1.

20 Jahre Tapete Records – Unsere erste Veröffentlichung erschien, wenn die Erinnerung nicht trügt, demnach im Jahr 2002. Verdammt, die Zeit vergeht so schnell wenn man Spaß hat. Die Welt hat sich in den letzten 20 Jahren derbe verändert aber ein Detail ist gleich geblieben: Wir bringen nach wie vor geniale Musik raus. Ist doch auch ein bisschen beruhigend, oder? Da dachten wir uns in unserem Tapete Building in der Stahltwiete 10 in Hamburg-Altona: Blicken wir zurück und starten eine Reihe guter, altmodischer, fantastischer Label-Compilations so im Stile von „Shadow Factory“, „Tamla Motown Is Hot! Hot! Hot!“ oder „Wanna Buy A Bridge?“… so was in der Art. Und hier nun „Intact & Smiling – The Weird & Wonderful World Of Tapete Records Vol.1“

War nicht ganz so einfach aus ca. 5000 veröffentlichten Songs 28 auszuwählen, aber was ist schon einfach? Deswegen auch eine Reihe. „Intact & Smiling Vol. 1“ konzentriert sich auf die poppige Seite von Tapete Records, der Grundton ist upbeat und uplifting. Kann ja nicht schaden heutzutage. Der Titel stammt von dem John Howard & The Night Mail Song in dem es heißt: “Walking tall, intact and smiling / An independent soul, nobody's slave.” Passt doch 1A zu einem Indie-Label!

Wir möchten uns bei allen Bands, Künstlerinnen und Künstlern bedanken, welche in den letzten zwei Dekaden ihre Musik bei uns veröffentlicht haben. Und natürlich bei denjenigen die ihre Songs so unbürokratisch für diese Compilation zur Verfügung gestellt haben. Und ein ganz besonders großes Dankeschön natürlich an euch, die ihr unsere Veröffentlichungen kauft, hört und streamt (hüstel). Jemanden vergessen? Ach so, ja, vielen Dank auch an an euch, die ihr über unserer Veröffentlichungen schreibt und unsere Musik im Radio und manchmal sogar im Fernsehen spielt.

Schließt also eure Augen und öffnet Ohren, Herzen und eventuell ein Fläschchen und tretet ein in die seltsame und wundervolle Welt von Tapete Records.

„Intact & Smiling – The Weird & Wonderful World Of Tapete Records Vol.1“ enthält 28 Songs von 28 Künstler*innen. Jeder Song hätte eine Single sein können, ja müssen! Die DoLP und die DoCD sind jeweils auf 500 Stück limitiert.

Auf die nächsten 20 Jahre und auf die nächsten Volumes von „Intact & Smiling“!
